Blog Anniversary??

Should I throw a virtual party? or do a giveaway to celebrate this special milestone? Well! Lemme confess... I honestly don't know the date I started this blog and ain't nobody got time to check my dashboard to find out the day I created the blog or at least check to see the date of when I posted my first blogpost. Oh well! A blog I follow celebrated her 5th blog anniversary in Oriental hotel in a big way yesterday... (Would update this post with her blog link and a link for pictures later).

I think I started blogging in 2011 so I'm about four years into this! Omg! If only I was serious o! Who knows what my account balance would have been *winks* 

This is just me musing out loud... Lol! Hope you enjoy this new week especially Friday's public holiday that's if you work with Lagos State Government!!! Nobody really gets why we have "so many" public holidays but if you've done the Lagos commute to work everyday of the month you definitely need a day off as a reward :)! For the first time I miss working in the government school as a Corper because Friday would have been a laid-back home-chilling day! Oh well!




P.S: This post was written on Monday and I still dunno how I forgot to post it then *scratches head* Would be back soon with more gist :)...

So I finally joined yesterday...

Don't laugh or say anything smart! 

It started with a conversation with a friend about another and now I'm here. Still testing the mic. There are only three things that could possibly go wrong:

1. I'll hate it and delete the account

2. I'll become an addict... obsessed over people's lives (or worse self obsessed!!) and forget to come to Blogsville or

3. I'll treat it like my Facebook (a 'former' friend that I know exists but can't be bothered to share updates of my life with).

I'm hopeful that None of these will occur especially option #2!!!

Fear of the Unknown

What's it about the unknown that drives we 'human beans' crazy??! The human mind knows how to cook up worst possible scenarios and oh boy the stories and tales of other people just helps to cement the fear in our hearts. I remember a lady saying that she got married to her husband while in university cause there was no guarantee that when she was done/ready that someone would be there if she looked over her shoulders. A friend of my aunt told me recently that she got a job a few weeks to the end of Nysc and  that she left her PPA cause there was no guarantee that she would have a job waiting afterwards so she never got her certificate. For these two I think it worked out well Buh it's often not the case. What "crazy" thing have you done cause you were scared to dare believe? 

In other news, mangoes are out!! Whoop whoop! I need someone to travel to eastern Nigeria and bring me some fresh and juicy ones! #Excited much

Like that father of the child, I too sometimes struggle with unbelief so I'm crying out for help. I choose to dare believe all He has promised me :)!

UP NEPA!

So after three days of No electricity... PHCN (or Nepa as we know it) has relented and given us light. Whoop whoop! I'm so happy to for the peace and quietness as a result of all the generators being switched off. This is my first blog post of the year. Just like Nepa I have been taking my time to do the needful :(.

So I'm not going to blame my absence on the new year festivities or my trip to see my god daughter in Abuja or even the fact my router got angry and stopped working so I had to replace it. I won't even dare say it was because someone was lazy and had been procrastinating (mind you I started typing this two days ago). No I shan't because nothing cuts it.

Plus Its February... the love month :). Love gives nothing but itself and that includes excuses.

14FOR14: 5 things I'm loving lately

September has been quite wonderful and FULL of activities for me. I've had this post in my head for about 2 weeks now just didn't get round to typing it till now...

This post was inspired by a post I read a while ago on Cassandra's blog here on the things she was loving lately too. So here are my 5


 1. Marc Jacobs Lola

 I got this perfume as a birthday gift and I'm so loving it right now :)!

2. My Hair

I finally got round to doing straw curls. Wondering what that is? Well its the reason why straws are finding themselves roped into ladies hair drama. My brother says he doesn't get why the ladies at work are doing it and now his sister too has joined 'em. *yimu*. I'm enjoying the bouncy curls and how my hair is off my neck. At the same time... its been raining a lot of late so I don't know how long I'll be able to pull it off :(

Although mine involved me getting into a dryer...lol

3. My Love letters... Can't explain it but the things I had been reading in THE BOOK of late have been very personal and mind blowing. *lovestruck* He just knows how to make me blush n'all.

4. My "Jimmy choo's"- Lool! I'm kidding buh I'm loving my new gym shoes :)! I love looking at them when I  work out. So I guess they are secretly a motivating factor for me to stay fit. Don't judge me :p

Last but not the least

5. I really didn't want to fall any one's hand so I'll live up to my reputation of being a foodie (according to two of my blog readers)..... GRILLED GIZZARD & SNAILS.

Top 5 Myths about Corpers (especially the female ones)

So its just been approximately four months since I started my Service year and a lot has happened. I hope to share them in bits someday. Anyways here are the myths and the reasons why they are myths:

Myth #1: Corp Members don't like their names. According to this myth, we prefer being called 'corper', 'kopa' or my personal fave "ajuwaya" which is a military term for 'as you were' (a.k.a return back to your original position; mostly used on the parade ground). However contrary to this myth, I'm yet to meet anyone who doesn't prefer the name they were given at birth to ajuwaya. I wish I could find a way to convey this message to the teachers in my staff-room; they keep yelling corper and ajuwaya in my direction *sigh*.

Myth #2: Corpers are Jobless! There are two sides to this myth.
-The first interpretation is that corpers have noting better to do at any point in time so feel free to waste their time. I get this a lot especially on general cd days and when we are made to attend seminars or lectures. Last month I got to my Lga around 8am and after waiting for two hours and the lady in question hadn't shown up I left. I went back later in the week and a lady in the office said to me "You should have waited that day because she came after you left." I asked her what time and she said around 12noon! Imagine! *angry face*

-The second side is that we are literally jobless and would do anything for a job. One day while commuting I met a man. I was wearing NYSC uniform that day so he started the convo with the usual 'corper' and 'ajuwaya' greeting. At first, I tried my best to be polite and nod at certain intervals during his monologue but it didn't last long. The major issue was that I couldn't interpret or comprehend half of what he was saying. He was speaking "English" or at least a version of it. He started hitting on me but noticed that I had zeroed out. So he goes ahead to play his trump card... he tells me that he can offer me a job in his office. For in his mind corpers are jobless so offering me a job will make me take him seriously! Joker! I can't remember what I told him but I'm sure I busted that myth for him.


Myth #3: Corpers are broke and always in need of a free ride. This myth annoys me a lot except if I am talking with my father in that case it is a FACT! Lool! But seriously I will soon pour dirty mop water on the next car and its driver which stops in front of me on the road. Ki lo de? That is how one day when I decided to do a long walk home, a guy came to chat me up and had the audacity to tell me that he can give me transport money! I just thank God for Jesus because only God knows what I would have done to the guy. The best way to bust this myth will be to go to any lga on a general cd day and see the traffic caused by corpers and their various rides or to carry out a study of the price tags of their various weaves, gadgets and toys or attend any of their beach outings/parties.

Myth #4 Corpers are enjoy being cheap labour . Do I need to explain this myth? I'm sure you've seen the job ads or broadcast messages specifically requesting for Corp members to fill in a position. Let me explain what it means... It means that the employer has a ton of work to be done but he wants to be cheap and pay less that the minimum wage. The justification is that at least he is paying more than the 'allowee' and what most schools are willing to pay. The answer to this myth is more environmental than sociological. More a case of crayfish bending because of condition. Corpers hate being cheap labour but often times settle for it when they lack alternatives. All part of the hustle.


Myth #5 Corpers are gullible and can buy anything. I cannot mention all the things and businesses people have attempted to sell to me in the past 4 months. Its incredible! If its not an MLM, its a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity or a portable gas cooker (please ask me why I need to carry my gas cooker with me everywhere o!) or an ever lasting shoe polish or some random accessory. I've mastered the 'No thank you' face. This myth has been busted several times but yet  it still exists because once in a blue moon, a corper does the unthinkable and patronizes a 'seller' hence the need to bust it again. Sad right? Oh well what can I say?

...With these few points of mine I hope I have been able to Convince you and not Confuse you that these 5 myths about Corpers are myths ;)!

10 Reasons why I love Reading

I saw this picture on a blog and I couldn't stop laughing! It reminded me of Nigerian home videos that use almost thirty minutes to show different adverts for upcoming movies and commercials before the main movie even starts. I read because of the following reasons:

1.  I can. :p (It's sad how many can't read because of  inadequate resources, funds or national crisis)

2. It provides a way of escape (although short-lived). It's sometimes easier to lose myself in a book that to face reality.

3. I love it!!!

4. It offers me the opportunity to let loose my imagination, be fearless with no regard for anyone's feelings

5. I want to be powerful (Laughs). My elementary teacher told me that Knowledge is power so I want to know as much as I can.

6. It is way better than staring at the ceiling or trying to understand the logic behind the dry joke the guy across from me is saying .

7. I have nothing better to do :D

8. I want to know

9. I'm too lazy to switch on the TV

Aint Nobody got time for that

Since I resumed back and started doing my blog rounds (I'm taking my time so I haven't gone far), I've been amazed at whats been going on in blogville. I've missed out on a lot of things o! especially the vouchers @tilola is giving for her "Guest blogger series" and plus the SENTIENT book giveaway by Caeblogs *sobs*

 Anyways, I found an old post on "Aint nobody got time for that" by Coy-introvert. (Click here to read post)   and it inspired me to write my on follow up of the things I don't have time for ;)!

1. 'Hanging' Blackberry smartphones: I dislike seeing the wait sign on blackberry phones (especially the bold series) as if i don't have enough things to do already. Abeg No time for that! Lool!

2. LAG BRT bus queues: Have you ever seen how long the line of people waiting for BRT buses in Lagos especially after working hours? Terrible! It's worse than the usual ATM and bank hall queues that I find equally annoying!

3.Traffic lights: Yeah I know they are put for a reason and so forth... but seriously most times I really don't have time to wait for the lights to change.  (except when i'm on the receiving end of the green light :) ).

4.Hair dryers: One of my least favorite things to do but yet i still find myself voluntarily going to salon to get my hair set (rollers n'all). Why can't there be a hair drying spray or something. No time to seat still and pretend to be reading a magazine when my whole body is crying from the discomfort and heat. Its usually worse if my hair got burnt during the relaxing process :( !

5.Peel Potatoes: In fact no time to peel anything small that requires to much effort and "little" result. Potatoes here are small and require peeling a gazillion to get a decent meal portion. (Garlic and ginger are included in this equation)

6.Suya: Funny how I'm not a big fan of suya  especially the beef one (prefer chicken and gizzard suya) but still I ain't got no time to wait for the Aboki or Mallam to put it back on the grill and roast it properly. (They usually display half-cooked suya)

7.Commercials: I don't need to explain this one!

8.Customer Care lines: I should rephrase and say I don't have time to be put on hold until the next available customer care agent is free to talk to me. To start with I'm calling because i have a compliant or something I don't have time to elongate my discomfort!

9.Caller  tunes especially the annoying and meaningless ones. People should stick to old faithful beep sound or even better, pick on the first ring.

10. Ain't Nobody got time to think of Number Ten :p

11 Random things about me *eye lashes*

·         I’m the only girl in my family that should explain why I’m close to my mom… we ladies have to stick together ;)

·         I’m also the shortest too. I’m the only adult I know who isn’t taller than at least one of their parents. (Or do I have partners??!)

·         I don’t have a best color. I used to love yellow then it changed to purple then lemon then a whole bunch of others.  Now I’ve decided to ‘break up’ with all of them so that I can be free… to explore the world of colors and buy stuff without the ‘best color’ restriction or bias.

·         I love Plantain and I miss it when I involuntarily go weeks without it. I love it raw, boiled, unripe, ripe, fried, roasted *boli*. The bottom line is I love it any way I find it J

·         I love reading what I call a ‘good book’ especially inspirational/witty books + classic romance novels

·         I like playing spider solitaire when I’m bored or in between assignments.

·         I don’t like when people take my stuff and don’t give it the TLC it deserves or worse…misplace it L

·         Not really a TV series freak. I only watch a few and the sad part is when I get to like it… they don’t make the ratings (Na wa for the oyibo rating system).  The one I like include Lie to me, Quintuplets, Two broke girls, modern family, Tyler Perry’s house of Payne (I’m way behind on this one though), Drop dead Diva etc

·         I’m not a dog or cat person; although I’ll pick a dog over a cat any day. I love my pets in big bowls (gold fish) and cages (parrots).

·         Usually secretly dance ‘azonto’ in my mind every time someone new follows my blog

·         Last but not the least , I have Crazy friends with a capital C but I love then all the same and still wonder how they put up with me or is it the other way round J

Wedding bells!!

I just realized that it’s been awhile since I’ve been on a wedding train.  Haba!! I have to start praying for all my single family members and friends to start getting married ASAP! Lol… But seriously I love all the wedding hype. I want a big wedding with all the lace trimmings and grand carriage. Yeah, Yeah, I know the wedding lasts a day while marriage is a lifetime. A girl is free to dream right? So lemme be.

Anyways I want the wedding bells to start ringing so that I can enjoy being a bridesmaid (hopefully a chief bridesmaid too) while awaiting my big day. Like every other job, being a bridesmaid has a few pitfalls. Here is my list of some of them;

1.       You can’t eat and drink as much as you’d loved to because of your “exposed” seat location way up front.

2.       You have to plaster a smile throughout the day (or else people will think you are jealous of the bride)

3.       You have to walk around in ridiculously high/uncomfortable shoes

4.       You have to smile persistently for cameras

5.       Keep reminding family members that you are not searching for the one so they should quit introducing you to “eligible” sons of Mr. this and Mrs. That

6.       You have to either attempt to catch the bouquet or pretend to do so (I personally hate all the pushing and shoving in an attempt to catch flowers)

7.        You have to buy or get a dress you mostly likely never wear after that day.

8.       You have to dance in public (although for some people this is an advantage)

 

But asides from all that, there are so many reasons to look forward to being a bridesmaid again and again…

1.       You get to have a front row pick of bachelors (that’s if you are searching)

2.       You get a good view of the couple and all the wedding traipsing and entertainment

3.       Gives you a good reason to dress up and act ladylike

4.       Acquisition of new clothes and shoes (in my opinion anything that makes you get new clothes and shoes is a good thing ;)!)

5.       The joy of seeing a friend/cousin say ‘I do’

6.       The feeling of importance and prestige attached to the role

7.       You get to share in the lime light and paparazzi

8.       You play a part (although minor) in the making the big day

9.       You contribute to the success and beauty of another person’s wedding (thus subscribing for the same on your day)

10.   You get lovely souvenirs or sometimes ridiculous ones ( guess what….I got a matchbox once)

Beauty

Beauty indeed lies in the eyes of the beholder

 i personally conside the sky as a 'portrait of beauty'
i like the way it has mood swings

other times it's blank... giving away no emotion
